# Publish and share a Datasite

> Review the audience, publish a working build, and distribute its link.

Publishing makes the current working build available at the Datasite's own address. Use sharing controls to decide who can view or edit it.

## Before you begin

You need a successful preview build and **Can edit** access, as well as permission to edit in the workspace. Only the Datasite owner can change its public/private visibility and manage sharing.

## 1. Review the preview

Check the figures, date ranges, filters, and phone layout. Confirm that the page contains the information intended for its audience. Changes to the preview do not update the live site until you publish again.

## 2. Choose the audience

Open **Publish** in the editor. Review the visibility shown beside the site's name:

| Visibility | Who can open the published site |
| - | - |
| **Private** | People who sign in and have access to the Datasite |
| **Public** | Anyone with its complete public link |

Use **Share** to inspect the people and groups with access. **Can view** allows viewing; **Can edit** also allows changing the site and publishing updates. Access may be inherited from its project.

## 3. Publish the build

Choose **Publish** in the popover. Once publishing finishes, the popover shows the live version and a URL you can copy. The first publish assigns the site its own address.

Copy the complete URL from Supaboard. Public links include the information needed to load the site's data; do not remove parts of the link.

## 4. Share or embed it

Send the copied link to the intended audience. To place the site inside another website, use the copied URL as an iframe's source. Private sites still require sign-in and access when embedded.

For a branded address, follow [Custom domains](/datasites/datasite-custom-domains).

## 5. Publish later changes

Make and review changes in the editor, then open the publish popover and choose **Update**. This replaces the live version with the current successful build.

## Expected result

The published link opens the version you reviewed, and viewers receive the access you intended. A later draft remains separate until you update the live site.

## Next steps
